All in the April evening

April’s concert at All Saints’ saw a large audience enjoying Roger Challoner’s readings of ‘Valentine’s’, ‘Leap year’ and ‘Going to the fair’ from the ‘Boy John’ letters. Jane Marchant delighted those present with her jazzy recorder playing. Organised by Joyce Yates (flute, recorders and piano) and Anne Chinn (readings), the concert also featured, from the village, Jean Challoner (contralto), Julie Goodwin (recorders) and Frank Paice (bass and piano) who was also master of ceremonies.

Visiting performers were Margaret Holman from Sussex (soprano), Clem Crocker and Catherine Howe from Ipswich (clarinets), Marion Williams (readings) from Winfarthing, and Louise Norgate and Jon Moule from All Saints’ School. Others who helped with the event were Sheila Churchyard, Peter and Pam Harries, Linda Allen-Griffin, Sue Paice, Marion Paines, Anne and Derek Lord and Howard Yates. The evening began with drinks and concluded with refreshments, when many who had attended remained for leisurely conversation, well into the evening. A healthy profit was achieved by the event.
