The Tortoiseshells are in the garden again and looking for food.
The beautiful Tortoiseshell Butterflies that have been hibernating all winter are now out and about looking for food. The Tortoiseshell is one of the few butterflies to survive the winter as adults and is a nomad. At this time it is essential they build up their energy levels for the distances they cover and for mating. This week the large yellow Brimstone butterfly was in the garden, they also survive the winter.
